Colloidal oatmeal

Today I’m launching my first two colloidal oatmeal soaps so …what is colloidal Oatmeal?

Colloidal oatmeal is simply oatmeal (Avena Sativa) that has been ground into a fine powder. This allows them to disperse evenly within the product – in my case soap.

Colloidal oatmeal has been shown to improve numerous skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, sunburn, bug bites and rashes. Scientific studies have shown that colloidal oatmeal has a complex chemical makeup including proteins, lipids, polysaccharides, flavonoids vitamins and minerals which convey antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Oatmeal has a long history of use in skin care products and can be found in lotions, cleansers, bath products... It can also be used “as is” just mixed into the bath water. For a colloidal oatmeal bath, add about one cup beneath the running tap, then enjoy a soak for 10-15 minutes. If you feel too coated you can rinse off but otherwise just pat yourself dry afterwards. You can also easily make a mask by combining just enough water to your colloidal oatmeal to form a paste.
